At Barnet and Southgate College, our Foundation Learning programmes are designed for students aged 16-18 who need extra support, qualifications or direction. Whether you’re working towards GCSEs, Functional Skills or progression into a specialist subject area, we’ll help you find the pathway that’s right for you.

What is Foundation Learning?
Foundation Learning provides a supportive pathway for students who need to develop qualifications, confidence or experience before progressing to their next destination. It combines practical learning with personal development, helping you build the skills needed for future study, training or work.
You’ll work towards important qualifications, including English and maths, while exploring subjects linked to different career areas. Programmes are available at different levels and can help you progress into vocational courses, further education or employment. With support from experienced staff and a structured learning environment, Foundation Learning helps you achieve your goals and prepare for the future.

At Barnet and Southgate College, you’ll join a supportive learning community that understands everyone progresses at their own pace. Our Foundation Learning programmes are designed to help you build confidence, achieve qualifications and prepare for your future.
You’ll have access to dedicated tutorial and learning support, including additional support for students with an EHCP or learning difficulty. Many courses include work experience opportunities and allow you to develop essential English and maths skills. With clear progression routes and personalised support, we’ll help you take the next step towards further study, training or employment.
