School engagement
As part of Gatsby Benchmark 7, Barnet and Southgate offer an extensive list of support for your school.
Supporting schools. Inspiring futrues.
At Barnet and Southgate College, we work with schools to help young people understand their options, discover their interests and make confident decisions about their future.
Our School Liaison Team offers assemblies, interactive workshops, careers fair support and campus visits.
Depending on the activity, our support can contribute to Gatsby Benchmarks 2, 3, 4 and 7 by sharing information about pathways, responding to students’ needs, linking learning to careers and giving students meaningful encounters with further education.
Meet the team
At Barnet and Southgate college, our school liaison mission is to ensure that we can work with you as part of Gatsby benchmark 7 to learn about technical, academic and vocational pathways post 16. Both our school liaison officers offer year 9-11 assemblies, tailored to each year group, campus visits, year 9-11 for students to experience what college is like, taster sessions, and attendance of your schools career fair to speak to your students on our offering and help them become more curious what they want to do post 16.
To contact the School Liaison Team please email events@barnetsouthgate.ac.uk.
Follow our School Liaison Team on LinkedIn for school engagement updates, workshop highlights and upcoming opportunities. Together, we can help young people feel informed, supported and ready for their next step.
How we support your school
We work with careers leads, teachers and pastoral teams to plan activities that suit your students’ needs, year groups and school timetable. Sessions can be adapted for short form-time slots, 30-minute sessions or full 45–50-minute lessons.
- Assemblies and Post-16 Talks: Engaging introductions to life after Year 11, covering A Levels, T Levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships. We help students understand the differences between pathways, consider how they enjoy learning and identify their next steps.
- Careers Fairs and Options Evenings: Our team attends school events to speak with students and families, answer questions and share information about courses, entry requirements, applications and college life.
- Campus Visits: Give your students the opportunity to experience our Barnet, Southgate or Colindale campuses. Visits can help students explore learning environments, discover subject areas and picture their next steps.
- Application and Interview Support: We help students understand the application process, prepare for interviews and feel more confident about moving from school to college.
- Parent and Carer Events: We support parents and carers with clear information about post-16 qualifications, progression routes and how they can help young people make informed choices.
- Interactive Careers Workshops: Our workshops encourage students to take part, ask questions and explore their future through games, discussion and practical activities. Enter content…
