Develop your workforce
Develop skills. Create opportunities. Build your future workforce.
At Barnet and Southgate College, we want skills development to create opportunities for individuals, employers and our communities.
Our employability programmes help people develop practical skills and explore routes into different sectors. By connecting learning with the world of work, we can help people take positive steps towards employment while supporting the skills needs of our communities.
Developing skills for the workplace
Finding the right route into employment can be challenging. Practical, focused training can help people understand a sector, build their confidence and prepare for their next step.
The College runs a range of part-time employability courses for trainees referred by Jobcentre Plus through the Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP).
SWAP training has included:
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- door security
- hospitality training
- introduction to roles in the Civil Service
- employability for retail careers
Sector-based Work Academy Programmes
Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAP) provide employability training for people referred through Jobcentre Plus. At Barnet and Southgate College, programmes have covered areas including construction trades, the Civil Service, security, hospitality and retail.
This focused approach gives trainees an opportunity to explore employment in a particular area and develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Interested in SWAP training?
Trainees must be referred to the College’s SWAP courses by their local Jobcentre.
Working together to develop skills
Workforce development works best when learning connects with real opportunities.
Whether you represent an employer, an employment service or another organisation, we want to build strong connections between skills and employment. Talk to us about your organisation and the skills you’re looking for, and we can explore where the College may be able to support you.
