What this course covers
Photography A Level will introduce you to darkroom skills, studio flash and location photography and encourages you to experiment with a range of photographic media, techniques and processes. While the course is mainly practical coursework there is also substantial theory required, research on historical and contemporary photographers and different photography genres, then reflecting on your own responses to their work. You will learn creative skills and understanding to develop personal photographic projects with your own chosen theme and your sketchbook will evidence your process and development throughout. You will develop editing skills using Photoshop, to refine and manipulate your images and are also encouraged to experiment with combining different mediums and fine art techniques.
Evidence for assessment will include a display of your concluding unit work and accompanying sketchbooks into which you record your weekly progress through written critical evaluation and research. Assessment is through 100% coursework, where students should be prepared for 1 day per week of homework. The final assignment is an externally set broad-based thematic starting point, which is finalised by a 10-hour sustained focus period.
