Science BTEC and T Level Laboratory Science Students Celebrate Outstanding Year of Achievement, Industry Success and Progression

Students and staff gathered to celebrate another exceptional year of achievement across science programmes, recognising the dedication, resilience and success of both T Level Lab Science and BTEC Science students. 

The annual celebration highlighted academic excellence, industry engagement, personal development and the remarkable progress students have made throughout the year as they prepare for university, employment and the next stage of their careers. 

Science Curriculum Manager Nneka Echezona praised students for their commitment to one of the most challenging and rewarding subject areas. She said: "Science is a discipline that continues to shape the future.  

“Whether progressing to university or directly into employment, the knowledge, skills and experiences they have gained will help make a meaningful contribution to society.  

“We are incredibly proud of everything the students have achieved." 

Special recognition was also given to teaching and support staff whose dedication, expertise and encouragement have helped students succeed throughout the year. 

Students were also recognised for their participation in a wide range of enrichment activities throughout the year, including scientific conferences, exhibitions, observatory visits and British Science Week events, which have helped broaden their understanding of the sector and develop professional skills. 

T Level Laboratory Students shine through industry partnerships 

Praise was given to the college's T Level lab Science students, who have successfully completed extensive industry placements with healthcare and scientific organisations, including UKHSA and other NHS partners. 

The T Level programme requires students to undertake the equivalent of 10 weeks of industry placement, providing invaluable real-world experience alongside their studies. 

Over the past year, students have worked alongside healthcare professionals, laboratory scientists and researchers, attended medical and scientific conferences and presented their work to experts from across the sector.

Student success stories

Among those celebrating their achievements was T Level Lab Science student Zekina, who has secured a place at the University of Greenwich to study Forensic Science and Criminology. 

Reflecting on her journey, Zekina said: 

"I originally wanted to study A Levels, but after speaking with my tutors, I decided to take a chance on the T Level Lab Science. Looking back, I'm so glad I did. The course gave me real laboratory experience and helped me build my confidence. I've developed practical skills that I know will help me in the future, and I'm excited to take the next step at university." 

Fellow T Level Lab Science student David will progress to the University of Nottingham to study Pharmacology and credits the course with helping prepare him for the future. 

He said: "I didn't initially plan to study a T Level, but once I learned more about the opportunities it offered, I decided to give it a try. The industry placement experience was invaluable because it allowed me to experience a real working environment before university. The course has helped me develop professionally and personally, and I feel well prepared for the next stage of my education." 

Looking ahead 

As the academic year draws to a close, many Science students will progress to university courses in areas including forensic science, criminology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences and healthcare, while others continue their studies within the college. 

The celebration served as a reminder not only of students' academic success, but also of the resilience, professionalism and determination they have developed along the way. 

Speaking to students, Nneka offered one final message: 

"Whatever challenges lie ahead, remember what you have already achieved. The effort, persistence and determination that brought you this far will continue to carry you forward. We are incredibly proud of every one of you and look forward to seeing what you accomplish next."
