This course is designed for adults aged 19+ who want to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in electrical installation. It is suitable for learners who have successfully completed a Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification and wish to progress towards becoming an Installation and Maintenance Electrician.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
Applicants will normally need: · A Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification (or equivalent). · GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) are desirable. · A good understanding of basic electrical principles. · An interest in working within the electrical industry.
Applicants without formal qualifications but with relevant experience may be considered following an assessment or discussion with the course team.
What will I study ?
You will develop the knowledge and practical skills required for electrical installation work, including: · Scientific principles for electrical installation. · Electrical installation design practices and procedures. · Inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical installations. · Fault finding and diagnosis. · Organising and overseeing electrical work activities. · Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671). · Health and safety and industry best practice. · Practical installation techniques and professional working practices
How will I be assessed ?
Assessment is through a combination of: · Online multiple-choice examinations. · Practical assignments. · Design-based assessments. · Inspection, testing and fault-finding activities. · Continuous assessment of practical competence throughout the course.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
Successful learners will achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Electrical Installation (Diploma) (2366-03), a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification aligned to the Installation and Maintenance Electrician occupational standard
Will I need an interview ?
Yes. Applicants will normally attend an interview to discuss their previous qualifications, experience and career goals.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Learners will normally need to purchase: · Safety boots and appropriate workwear/PPE. · Scientific calculator and writing materials. · Recommended textbooks and the current edition of BS 7671 may also be required. Additional examination or registration fees may apply where these are not covered by funding.
