If you are aged 16-18 and focused on a career working with children and want to achieve a qualification which will enable you to seek employment in the early years sector, then this is the course for you. A comprehensive range of knowledge and skills will be developed on this course to help you reach your goal of working within the childcare sector. This qualification will prepare you to work with children aged 0-5 years through practical work experience in a nursery setting for part of the week and to gain knowledge and understanding of working with children up to 7 years of age by completing activities in the classroom and submitting a range of assignments.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
A genuine interest in a career working with children. You will need at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including 3 in both English and Maths. Evidence of work experience with children is desirable.
What will I study ?
You can expect to complete modules on subjects such as: roles and responsibilities of the early years’ practitioner, health and safety, child development, supporting the needs of the child in preparing for school, equality and diversity, safeguarding, supporting the needs of babies and children with special educational needs and disabilities, supporting physical care routines and working in partnership with other professionals (inc. parents/ carers). In addition to Childcare, you will be enrolled on GCSE Maths and / or English if you have not yet achieved a minimum grade 4.
How will I be assessed ?
There are no exams on this course, it is assessed and completed through assignments, professional discussions and a minimum of 250 hours of
vocational work experience in a nursery or reception class where you will be observed in practice twice as part of the course. As part of this course, you are required to complete a DBS check. You can expect to spend 3 days a week at college attending classes and 2 days at your work placement.
