Barnet and Southgate College was delighted to welcome David Pinto-Duschinsky MP to its Colindale Campus, where he met staff and students and saw first-hand how the College is helping local people develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to succeed in their chosen careers.
The visit came about following a recent trip to the Houses of Parliament organised by Alistair Downes, Public Services lecturer, who arranged for Public Services students to meet with David and learn more about the workings of Parliament and public life. Building on those connections, the MP was invited to visit the College to see the impact of further education within the local community.
During the visit, David toured a range of curriculum areas, including Construction, Hair, Beauty and Barbering, Youth Work and Childcare, where students are developing industry-relevant skills aligned to the needs of the local workforce. He met learners and staff, gaining an insight into the high-quality teaching, facilities and opportunities available across the College.
Discussions also focused on the wider role education plays in supporting communities, creating opportunities for young people and ensuring learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can access the support and pathways they need to achieve their ambitions.
The visit highlighted the shared commitment between the College and local leaders to promote skills, employment, inclusion and social mobility. By working closely with employers, partners and community stakeholders, Barnet and Southgate College continues to create opportunities that help learners progress into higher education, apprenticeships and rewarding careers.
We would like to thank David Pinto-Duschinsky MP for taking the time to visit the College and learn more about the inspiring work taking place every day across our campuses. His visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the talent, ambition and achievements of our students, as well as the important role further education plays in supporting local communities and driving economic growth.
