A legacy of transformation: Adam Goldstein steps down as Chair of Governors after six years at Barnet and Southgate College

London, UK

Barnet and Southgate College has announced a major leadership transition, with long-standing Chair of Governors Adam Goldstein stepping down after six years of dedicated service. He is succeeded by the College's current Vice Chair, Jenny Jarvis, who officially steps into the role of Chair from September.

This transition comes at a pivotal moment for the College, as it accelerates the delivery of its ambitious 2030 Vision. Guided by its core purpose—to change lives, empower individuals, and connect communities—the College continues to strengthen its position as North London’s premier vocational powerhouse and a critical driver of local employability.

Reflecting on a Transformative Era

Since joining the Board as Chair in May 2020, Adam Goldstein has steered the College through some of its most successful and transformative years. Under his leadership, the College achieved an Ofsted "Good" rating (with "Outstanding" Apprenticeships), reinforced its financial resilience, and successfully launched the 2030 Vision strategic plan.

Bringing more than 20 years’ experience in strategic education leadership, transformation, and further education policy, Adam has combined his role at the College with his position as Chief Executive of a multi-academy trust. His wider experience across central government, awarding organisations, and the not-for-profit sector has supported the College’s strong governance and strategic direction.

Reflecting on his departure, outgoing Chair Adam Goldstein said:

"Serving as Chair of Barnet and Southgate College has been one of the proudest chapters of my professional life. Over the last six years, we have worked tirelessly as one team to build a solid foundation of academic quality and financial resilience. I am immensely proud of our staff, our students, and everything we have achieved together, including our outstanding apprenticeship ratings.

As I step down, I do so with absolute confidence that the College is in safe hands. Jenny is an exceptional leader whose commitment to our students and the green skills agenda will take our 2030 Vision to even greater heights."

Charting the Path to 2030 and Beyond

Incoming Chair Jenny Jarvis brings over two decades of expert leadership in public service delivery, education, and skills development to the role. Currently the Chief Operating Officer at the Energy Saving Trust and former interim CEO of the Education and Training Foundation, Jenny joined the College Board in January 2021.

As Vice Chair and Chair of the Quality of Teaching and Student Experience Committee, she has already been instrumental in shaping the College's learner-centric approach.

Speaking on her appointment, Jenny Jarvis shared her vision for the future:

"I am incredibly honoured to step into the role of Chair at Barnet and Southgate College. I want to thank Adam for his extraordinary leadership and steady guidance, which have set us on a clear path toward excellence.

Moving forward, we remain laser-focused on our 2030 Vision. I am deeply passionate about driving our green skills and sustainability agenda in particular and ensuring our vocational curriculum prepares students to lead the industries of tomorrow. We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel supported, empowered, and ready to thrive."

A Shared Commitment to Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

The transition has been warmly welcomed across the College community, reinforcing a unified corporate culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Neil Coker, CEO and Principal of Barnet and Southgate College, paid tribute to Adam and welcomed Jenny to her new role:

"Adam’s contribution to this College has been immeasurable. His support and belief in our mission have enabled us to to develop and deliver our bold vison for the College. On behalf of the entire executive team and staff, I want to express my deepest gratitude for his vision and partnership.

I am absolutely delighted to welcome Jenny as our new Chair. Having worked closely with her over the past few years, I know her dedication to high-quality teaching, student experience, and community collaboration is unmatched. Together, we will continue to foster a 'one college' culture of pride, innovation, and continuous improvement, ensuring that Barnet and Southgate College remains a true college of the future."
