Barnet and Southgate have a rich and interesting heritage which goes back centuries. The aim of the Local History class is to encourage learners to take an interest in the history of Barnet and Southgate and surrounding areas. We do this in a variety of ways including the use of trips and visits, research, quizzes and films. An emphasis is placed on making the class fun and learners enjoy researching and planning trips to places of historical interest. Learners are able to choose the topics to be researched and in the past we have covered subjects such as the Battle of Barnet which was part a decisive engagement in the Wars of the Roses, a dynastic conflict of 15th century England; the architecture of London Underground's local stations and the impact of the Romans on the local area.

There is no formal assessment on this course.

There are no formal qualifications on this course. This course is part of the Community Link programme on which many qualifications can be achieved.
