The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science is a practical, work-related course designed to provide career development opportunities for those considering or seeking employment in any area of science. You must have a genuine interest in and an aptitude for science.
You will be expected to have at least one of the following: A BTEC Introductory Diploma Foundation Certificate in science or a related subject plus the equivalent to a 4 GCSEs at Grade D (3) including science, maths & English. You may be asked to sit a Science test.
All students take 3 core units: Chemistry & Our Earth Energy, Our Universe Biology & Our Environment. Once these are completed we select further modules to complete your qualification. Past topics have included Chemical Analysis and Detection, Investigating Human Behaviour (Psychology), Growing plants for Food and The Living Body.
All units will be assessed and graded with a pass grade plus an overall grade for the qualification. You must complete ALL units to achieve a pass grade, and a minimum score of 340 is needed to gain a merit, which enables progression to Level 3. You will also require GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above to progress. All units will be assessed by assignments, projects and exercises set by your tutors and marked internally. You will also be expected to keep a portfolio of your work.
Successful candidates achieve the nationally recognised Level 2 BTEC Diploma; which is equivalent to 4 grades A* - C at GCSE (depending on your final grade).
