This course is for post 16 students and will suit you if you have an interest in the human body and its relation to health and fitness; it involves fitness instructing, leading sessions, designing programmes and nutrition. It would also be suitable if you want to go onto further study and have an academic or a career interest in the health and fitness industry, with the ultimate aim of becoming a fitness or gym instructor.
Applicants are required to have 5 GCSEs at grades A-C (7/8 - 4/5) including English, maths and preferably PE. Applicants with BTEC L2 Award in Sport need a Distinction in addition to grade C (4/5) at English and maths GCSE. Applicants with the BTEC L2 Diploma in Sport require a Merit, including grade C (4/5) in English and maths.
Subjects covered include: anatomy and physiology, health and safety, planning gym sessions and programmes as well as working with clients.
You will undertake two exams that are externally assessed and two practical and theory exams that take place in college.
On successful completion of this course, students will achieve a Level 2 YMCA Award in Health, Fitness and Exercise Instruction
First you will need to decide on your specialist sports academy, and then register for and attend a sports trial. (Trials and academies are detailed on our Sports webpages - please click the link to Boreham Wood FC if you wish to take part in their trials.) Once you have completed a trial you can complete and return a course application form.
Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and an initial assessment.
