Barnet and Southgate College team up with Spurs

Two lucky football students from Barnet and Southgate College met first team players from Tottenham Hotspur at an exciting event last week

Football students Ryah Vyse, aged 19 and Siobhan Wilson, aged 17 both recently qualified for the BCS (British Colleges Sports) Ladies England squad; the national team recently played against and beat Wales to win the coveted Anglo Welsh Shield.

As well as playing for the BCS team, Ryah also plays for Middlesex County and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies first team, she has been with the club since she was 10 years old and Siobhan also plays for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies under 21’s team. The event was held especially to congratulate both the girls and raise awareness of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s (THF) Education and Football Development Centre programme in conjunction with Barnet and Southgate College. The girls met with the Club’s first team squad and even practiced alongside the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Jake Livermore and Danny Rose.

Ryah and Siobhan first joined Barnet and Southgate College in September 2010 and both girls are currently working towards completing their BTEC Level 3 in Sports Development. Their studies also form part of Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s (THF) programme; the students use facilities at Barnet and Southgate College and White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre and receive up to 10 hours of Tottenham Hotspur Academy standard coaching each week to enhance their football skills.

Barnet and Southgate College Principal David Byrne said:

“This is a great achievement for Barnet and Southgate College and we are very proud of both football students. Ryah and Siobhan have demonstrated that investing in hard work and training really does pay off as both of them have been offered full football scholarships in the USA when they finish at the College. We wish them luck for their future career and encourage other girls and boys with a flair for the sport, aged 16 to 19 years old to come along to the football trials being held at the Southgate Campus next week.”

Football trials for 16 to19 year old girls and boys are being held at the College's Southgate Campus . Come along for a chance to shine in front of a team of expert coaches - boys trials are being held on 3rd April: 9.00am-4.30pm and girls trials are being held on 2nd April: 1.30pm-4.30pm and on 4th April: 10.00am-2.00pm. Students who join the course will benefit from the support of a full Barnet and Southgate College programme and the College partnership with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation .
