Student testimonials

Here’s what some of our students say about coming to Barnet and Southgate College:

Caleb Kirton

Caleb joined Barnet and Southgate College after moving to the UK from the US.

He exceeded his own expectations with 2 A* and 2 A Grades in his A Levels . He is now at King's College London studying Law, where he hopes to "do a Master’s degree and become a Barrister".

Caleb said about his exprience of the College: "The teaching and support has been exceptional at the College and the tutors also helped me with my UCAS form and the whole application process. I’ve had a great experience studying here from the US and I’m grateful to Barnet and Southgate College for helping realise my dreams, I’m looking forward to studying further in London and fulfilling my career aspirations.”

Jamie Tash

Jamie Tash is 15 years old and studying a practical Construction course at College whilst continuing with his GCSEs at School.

"I joined the College on a Construction  Multi-skills course so I could get a taster in a number of areas including painting, decorating and brickwork. I love learning and really enjoyed this as I’m just not that academic. Although I’m still at school as I have to finish my GCSEs, it’s great as my school contacted the College and they arranged for me to come in three days a week and I spend two days at school. My parents were really happy about this as I’ve finally found something that I enjoy and that I’m passionate about and this is what I want to do as a career.

I get a lot of support from the tutors at College and they really understand where I’m coming from. The atmosphere is great and really friendly. I much prefer College to school as I’m treated as an adult here and I get much more independence."

Isabella Thackara

Isabella is aiming to go to Chelsea School of Art or Goldsmiths after completing her Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design

"I’m getting a lot of work done at Barnet and Southgate College and the facilities at Wood Street are great – really modern and there’s everything that you need. I love my course and all of the staff and tutors are very good, they’re so supportive and help you explore using a lot of materials, which is great for the course as you can try out so many mediums.

I came to College from a school in Bedford to be closer to London, moving here was the best decision I’ve ever made. I came from an all girls’ school and wasn’t actually expecting it to be so easy to settle in, I really didn’t expect people to be so nice and I love it here."

Grace Tims

Grace, aged 18, completed the Bridging Course  at Barnet and Southgate College and is now studying A Levels  in Sociology, English Literature and Language and Film Studies

"A Bridging Course is a great opportunity to retake qualifications to improve your grades, to get into higher education or achieve a better job than you would have before. I’d finished school with 4 GCSEs and needed 6, plus I wasn’t very happy with my English and Maths GCSE grades so I was looking for somewhere to retake them. Barnet and Southgate College was the only college offering me the opportunity to do that at that time.

The students on the course were all very friendly and nice, and the teachers were really supportive and caring. They supported me throughout the course with my personal needs, keeping up with homework and classwork and they just made sure I knew how to do the best I could do.”
