Real preparation for employment
Recent independent research commissioned by the Association of Colleges (AoC) found that parents admit they are struggling to give the right advice to prepare young people for the world of work, the Barnet and Southgate College REED NCFE Employment Zone has been developed with this research in mind; training students to understand how the world of work operates. Through the REED NCFE Employment Zone, students are taught how to think and behave in a work environment, improve their interview skills and be given careers advice and work experience. In a recent survey of 1,264 employers conducted by REED, 97% put the workplace ‘mind-set’ element ahead of skills, as something they look for when recruiting. In a further study of 30,000 CVs, Reed found that demonstrating a workplace mind-set on a CV “tripled your chances of getting and keeping” the best jobs.
We have been ranked as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in many areas and have excellent, state-of-the-art facilities at many of our campuses. Route to Higher Education and Professional Development
Many of our courses have impressive links to local Universities and the commercial sector; our central aim is to prepare students for higher education or the world of work, whilst at the same time providing a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to learn. We are one of the largest Colleges in North London providing a wide range of academic and vocational courses, many of which are directly linked to local employers and universities. And our curriculum is as diverse as our students; from GCSEs and A Levels to professional qualifications and Higher Education , from basic maths and literacy to vocational training, in everything from catering and construction , to hairdressing and motorsport . The College actively encourages and helps younger students to be independent and responsible for their own future success; receiving expert guidance on potential career options, further education and employment opportunities. Our wide range of HE and professional courses means that your child will have future progression opportunities within the College if it suits them better to stay within the local, friendly environment of college rather than university.
