College provides that necessary bridge to university; broadening students outlook, giving them the chance to meet a new set of peers in a more mature and independent environment, it also offers a broad range of support mechanisms.
We have set up a Facebook page just for parents - please follow us to get advice and information about the College, and to ask any questions you may have.
Real preparation for employment
Independent research commissioned by the Association of Colleges (AoC) found that parents admit they are struggling to give the right advice to prepare young people for the world of work, the Barnet and Southgate College REED NCFE Employment Zone has been developed with this research in mind; training students to understand how the world of work operates. Through the REED NCFE Employment Zone, students are taught how to think and behave in a work environment, improve their interview skills and be given careers advice and work experience.
We have been ranked as ‘good’ by Ofsted in our last inspection and have excellent, state-of-the-art facilities at many of our campuses. The wide variety of industry standard study environments and training facilities on offer include; newly-installed science labs, a mechatronics centre, a commercial hair salon endorsed by Wella, fully-equipped automotive body and paint workshops, electrical workshops and a construction hub at the new Colindale Campus. Soon to come are a state-of-the-art dental technology centre and a centre for technology-enhanced care.
Route to Higher Education and Professional Development
Our central aim is to prepare students for higher education or the world of work, whilst at the same time providing a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to learn. We are one of the largest colleges in north London, providing a wide range of academic and vocational courses, many of which are directly linked to local employers and universities. And our curriculum is as diverse as our students; from GCSEs and A Levels to professional qualifications and Higher Education, from basic maths and literacy to vocational training, in everything from construction, to hairdressing and motorsport. The College actively encourages and helps students to be independent and responsible for their own future success; receiving expert guidance on potential career options, further education and employment opportunities. Our wide range of higher level and professional courses means that your child also has future progression opportunities within the College if it suits them better to stay within their local, friendly environment rather than university.
