What is engineering?
Engineering is the application of mathematics, as well as scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to invent, innovate, design, build, maintain, research, and improve structures, machines, tools, systems, components, materials, processes, solutions, and organisations.
Engineering covers many different types of activity using their creativity to design solutions to the world’s problems such as develop new materials like high performance sports fabrics or new electronic displays.
Engineers also develop new ways to generate electricity such as wind and solar power technologies.
Sarah Nsinjo - BTEC Level 2 Engineering
"It took time for me to settle in, as I was the only girl on the course, so I was a bit withdrawn but then I became the class representative which really helped me engage with everyone and work together.
Eventually I would like to become an engineer working to help people get the most out of life."
