Who is this course for?
Pathways in social work and related professions. If you are a mature student (usually over 19) and wish to achieve the qualifications necessary to pursue a Higher Education programme leading to a career in Social Work, Social Care, Youth Work, Youth Justice, Housing, Psychology or similar areas, then this is the perfect route for you. The course offers the underpinning knowledge to gain a level 3 qualification.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?
There are no formal entry requirements, but students must have relevant experience of working with childcare or health and social care settings. Students must be committed and motivated to study and wish to progress on to higher education. Relevant work experience is desirable. Students progressing from a Level 2 qualification will normally require a merit profile. Applicants will need a satisfactory reference and interview. A satisfactory standard of English, equivalent to GCSE Level 2 is required. It is an essential requirement as part of the conditions of gaining a place on the course that you have and can maintain paid or voluntary employment within the sector that you wish to pursue a career. Evidence will need to be shown before you can have a unconditional place on the course. Most universities will also require you to have this experience as part of the entry requirements.
What will I study ?
This course programme covers: * GCSE equivalencies in English & Maths * Study Skills and IT * HE Preparation and Exam Skills * Independent Research Pathway units including: * Sociology * Interpersonal Skills, * Safeguarding Children * Social Work Practice
How will I be assessed ?
Assessment will be through: * Coursework * Final Examination (some units only)
What qualifications could I achieve ?
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the nationally recognised Access to Higer Education Diploma L3 Social Work accredited by the awarding organisation OCN London.
What can the course lead to ?
On successful completion of this course students can progress onto Social Work, Housing, Youth Work, or similar vocational Degrees at any university. Those going on to academic degrees in the social science areas are guaranteed a place at Middlesex University. However vocational courses will also require an interview therefore places are not guaranteed.
How do I join the course ?
Please complete an application form online. An assessment in literacy and numeracy will be set up. After successful achievement at Level 2 an interview will then be set up.
Will I need an interview ?
Yes. All applicants will be interviewed and required to undertake a literacy assessment.
Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Extra Costs will include: * Stationery * Books (Approximately £50.00)

Access programmes are designed especially to prepare mature students to enter higher education. They help to develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete a degree course or diploma in higher education.

Course Fees

Course tuition fees are free for UK students under 19yrs.

All students may  be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc. if appropriate

UK students aged 19 and over may need to pay tuition fees, and where applicable  exam and materials fees.  Please contact us for more fee information. Ask about the new 24+ Advanced Learning Loans for some courses starting Sep 2013.
