Who is this course for?
This course provides students with the opportunity to continue to improve their communication skills and language skills and gain a qualification in beauty therapy and customer service. This vocational course has been developed to provide learners with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work in the beauty industry or to progress to further study.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?
Minimum ESOL/Literacy Entry 3 qualification As part of the interview you will have to complete a language assessment test
What will I study ?
Units offered include: " Basic salon reception duties " Personal presentation in the salon " Following health and safety practice in the salon " Hair and beauty industry and occupation awareness " Basic make-up " Basic manicure In addition to studying vocational units, students will have 7 hours of communication, including a tutorial of 1 hour. Students also have minimum of 1 hour of Functional Skills Maths and 1 hour of Functional Skills IT a week. You will be interested in pursuing a career in beauty or plan to continue studying beauty at Level 1 and Level 2.
How will I be assessed ?
The beauty element of the course is assessed through coursework plus an online exam. Students are required to complete a portfolio.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
City and Guilds Certificate
What can the course lead to ?
After completing this course students can progress into employment or to a level 1 NVQ in Beauty Therapy.

Will I need an interview ?
Initial assessment and a satisfactory interview, demonstrating an interest in the subject. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people who are able to fully commit to this course for the whole year
Further Information
To meet the requirements of the course, various methods such as: group work; role play scenarios; teacher support; visits to beauty salons; make-up houses; other colleges and using various computer resources will be used to enhance learning. Communication lessons focus on reading, writing and speaking skills as well as supporting students with their assignments. Students will also study for a qualification in Personal and Social Development We expect 100% attendance and punctuality from our students. If your attendance or punctuality falls below 85%, you will be subject to the College's disciplinary procedure.

Course Fees

Course tuition fees are free for UK students under 19yrs.

All students may  be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc. if appropriate

UK students aged 19 and over may need to pay tuition fees, and where applicable  exam and materials fees.  Please contact us for more fee information. Ask about the new 24+ Advanced Learning Loans for some courses starting Sep 2013.
