This course builds on the skills learned in the Carpentry & Joinery Level 1 Diploma and helps you develop specialist carpentry skills in site carpentry, bench joinery or shop fitting joinery. This diploma supports your development as a specialist carpenter helping you learn, develop and practise the skills you need for employment or further career progression.
All applicants must have successfully completed the Carpentry & Joinery Diploma Level 1 before starting this Level 2 course. New applicants to the College should be able to demonstrate Level 1 numeracy and literacy capabilities through a short assessment during the admission process.
Building on from your Level 1 Diploma you will specialise in site carpentry or joinery. In all specialisms you will learn to set up and operate a circular saw. If you study site carpentry you will learn and practise first fix flooring, roofing, frames, partitions and stairs as well as second fixing operations and maintenance. If you follow the bench joinery specialism you will learn how to produce setting out details for bench products, then how to mark out and make bench products.
Your course work will be assessed by a combination of short question papers and observed assessments of your practical work by a qualified assessor. You will be given help to prepare for all assessments and tests.
Successful completion of the course will lead to an award of Diploma Level 2 (City & Guilds 6706 Level 2). You will also have the opportunity to study towards gaining a CSCS card, increasing your employability. From here you can choose to proceed to the Diploma Level 3, employment or look for an Apprenticeship.
