Are you employed in the classic car or body, paint and panel workshops, and looking to advance in the automotive industry? This programme is designed for those people who carry out inspections including, repairing and replacing faulty parts on classic and historic vehicles, suitable for use on today's roads, while preserving for future use. Using traditional and modern process skills covering mechanical, electrical, body, paint and trim.
Candidates must have been resident in the UK for 3 years and be working a minimum of 30 paid hours per week in a motor vehicle garage environment. Ideally you will have a Maths and English qualification (GCSE A*- E (8/9 - 2/3)or Functional Skills Level 1) however suitable candidates will be accepted on the condition they complete the required levels prior to completion.
You will study a broad spectrum of industry-relevant topics to allow you to develop your knowledge and skills across a range of different disciplines. These units cover the following categories: mandatory health and safety, tools and equipment, foundation materials, vehicle construction, surface preparation, Heritage and history, measuring and recording, trim remove refit, basic trim refurbishment and minor damage and repairs.
You will be required to attend college one day per week throughout your apprenticeship. You will be assessed through a combination of practical tasks in the motor vehicle workshop, written exams, online exams, coursework and reports on your competence in your normal workplace.
Successful candidates will achieve a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Restoration with the following qualifications: IMI Level 2 Diploma in Classic Vehicle Restoration Competence (QCF), IMI Level 2 Diploma in Classic Vehicle Restoration Principles (QCF), Award in Knowledge of Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR), Level 1/2 Functional Skills in Maths, Level 1/2 Functional Skills in English, Level 1/2 Functional Skills in ICT.
