This course is an excellent first step to becoming an IT technical support and cybersecurity professional and is ideal for students seeking entry-level IT positions in companies, government agencies, educational institutions, service providers or to work for themselves. It first follows the Cisco IT Essentials and CompTIA A+ curriculums to gain the skills necessary to support IT infrastructures, which includes device hardware, software, networks and security, and then moves onto an introductory course in Cybersecurity. This course will train a learner to a professional standard - for two respected certifying bodies (CompTIA and Cisco) - within 20 weeks. If you would like to become a Networking and cybersecurity specialist (which are currently in high demand) in less than one year you can take this in conjunction with our networking and security courses to achieve this.

This is an entry-level professional qualification - equivalent to a level 3 module - and no formal qualifications or prerequisites are needed. It is however a demanding and rewarding course with a lot of materials of a highly technical nature to study and hands-on practical computing labs to carry out. It would be advantageous if you had previous knowledge in computer hardware and software and were proficient in using a computer.

You will develop a working knowledge of how computers and mobile devices operate: covering hardware and configuration, installation and upgrading, diagnosing and troubleshooting, printers, basic networking, software install and fundamental configuration (Windows, Linux and Mobile OS's) You will learn skills and procedures to install, configure and troubleshoot computers, mobile devices, and software. You will develop critical thinking and problem solving skills using both real equipment, virtual machines and network configuration simulation tools. You will examine common security threats and vulnerabilities like malware, phishing, spoofing and social engineering and how best to protect against them.

Throughout your course you will get immediate feedback on your work through built-in quizzes and tests. There is a module examination at the end of each chapter which you are expected to complete each week. There is a proctored final multiple-choice theory examination and practical test.

If you successfully complete the course and final examinations, you will achieve certification in both Cisco IT Essentials (equivalent to CompTIA A+) and Cisco Cybersecurity Essentials. You will also be prepared to take the CompTIA A+ hardware and software certifications (at additional cost) which has been designed as the leading industry standard to determine a computer technician's hardware and software knowledge.
