For students aged 16-18 and wishing to gain more experience/develop their skills in the Health, Social Care & Social Work, Sociology/Psychology and Nursing/Midwifery sector. The course provides an excellent introduction to the topics which you will study when you go to University to pursue a career in your chosen field. You will gain practical experience to the everyday work involved in these professions.

Applicants will require a CACHE Level 2 in Health and Social Care plus GCSE maths or English Grade C (4/5) or above. You may also apply if you have 5 GCSE grade A*-C (8/9 - 4/5), which must include English Language and maths at Grade C (4/5) or above. We will require an excellent reference from a previous school or college confirming a good record of attendance and punctuality.

You will be required to attend the College 3 days a week and undertake 160 hours voluntary work placement in a health and social care setting across the length of the course. In Year 1 you will study: 1. Developing Effective Communication in Health & Social Care; 2. Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care; 3. Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care; 4. Development through the Life Stages; 5. Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care; 6. Nutrition for Health; 7. Introduction to Counselling Skills for Health and Social Care; 8. Infection Control and Prevention.

Your assessment will be based on completion of assignments and attending 160 hours of work placement.

Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and an initial assessment. Please bring a handwritten personal statement of approximately 200 words to your interview, highlighting why you would like to work in the health and social care sector.
