For students interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts. The course has been developed to progress to degree level study in Photography, or into employment.
You will need 5 GCSEs grade A* - C (8/9 - 4/5), preferably including English; a Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and/or English; or a Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design (Distinction or Merit), or a Level 2 Diploma in another relevant subject area (Distinction or Merit).
The course provides a broad technical and creative grounding allowing you to develop the relevant skills and knowledge required to work within an Art, Craft and Design environment. You will study the following areas: Darkroom practice, film photography, studio and location, photography techniques, Photoshop and other desktop publishing applications, digital photography techniques and experimental image making. You will also develop drawing skills, learn about historical and contextual influences on photography. In Year 2 you will complete a Final Major assignment, where you write and direct your own photography project. Students showcase their portfolio of work at the end of year show, and exhibit their work in galleries and other commercial locations.
Coursework is assessed throughout the year.
Year 1 - UAL: Level 3 Diploma in Photography Year 2 - UAL: Level 3 Extended Diploma Photography (Progression onto year 2 is subject on successful completion of the diploma, attendance & punctuality)

Yes - you will need to meet a member of staff for an interview; to which you should bring a portfolio of your artwork, and a written piece (approximately 300 words - one side of A4) on why you are applying for a creative course and what your future plans are.
Most materials will be provided, but it is advisable to invest in a range of art and design related equipment and materials, so you can continue your work outside of the studios.
Students may be required to study Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths as part of their programme.
