This course is designed for people who are interested in pursuing careers the visual effects or games design industries. You will be looking to work in a digital visual environment where you can have an impact on what millions of people will view or interact with on either the big or small screen.
You will need 5 GCSE's grade A*-C (8/9 - 4/5); preferably including English, Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and /or English. Alternatively you could qualify for this course with a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media (Distinction or Merit; a Level 2 Diploma in Creative IT (Distinction or Merit) or Level 2 Diploma in another relevant subject area (Distinction or Merit).
The emphasis of this course is to provide you with the skills and experience you'll need to work in the world of visual effects. You will develop you hand and digital drawing and planning skills. You will look at the principles and practicalities of working with live action and digitally produced 3D environments, and how to match the two together. You will develop your own ideas for sequences, which you will realise using the latest in digital technology. You will also develop your skills in career progression by working on Functional Skills or GCSEs in Maths and/or English, as well as taking part in vital employability and work experience projects.
Assessment is formative and coursework is assessed throughout the year.
Year 1 UAL: Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology. Year 2 UAL: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology. (Progression on to year 2 is subject on successful completion of the diploma, attendance & punctuality).

Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and an initial assessment, for which you will need to submit examples of your work and a written piece on a subject you'll be given before the interview.
Many materials will be provided but it is advisable to invest in a selection of media storage equipment and materials so that you can continue your work outside of the studios.
