This course is for 16-19 year olds who have an interest in the role of media in our day-to-day life and who want the opportunity to extend their practical skills in their chosen medium. Students will view, evaluate and analyse a variety of media products, and develop practical skills spanning a range of media forms.
General Qualifications: For 3 A Level subjects you require between 5 and 6 GCSEs grade A*-C (8/9-4/5) in academic subjects, taken at one sitting. Specifically for media studies you need a B grade, or 6 grade in a suitable subject such as English GCSE
Media Studies is a contemporary dynamic academic subject that explores the use and role of the media in modern society. Students explore the growth and significance of media forms and critically evaluate media content. The main themes are: media language, media representation, and media industries and media audiences. 30 % of the course is a non-examined assessment. This will provide students with the opportunity to creatively apply their theoretical knowledge in a range of practical lessons.
Assessment will be by both examination and NEA: 2 written papers of 2 hours each at the end of 2 years - 70% of A-Level; Non-exam assessment (NEA) - Creating a cross-media production - 30% Of A-Level.
