Two year course - Wood Street
This programme is designed for those interested in pursuing a career in Photography. This course balances photography with the knowledge needed to work within Art, Craft and Design environment. The programme covers some of the following topics:
To support the study of Photography within an art & design context, students will also develop drawing skills; learn about historical and contextual influences on photography, as well as professional practices within the subject area.
You will have access to 2 photography studios with 8 Bowens flash heads and a range of light modifiers, an air conditioned black and white darkroom with 18 enlargers fit for 35mm, medium format and large format film, a processing room for processing your own black and white film, an Apple Mac suite with Adobe CS 6, dedicated film scanners and a Canon Pro A3+ Inkjet Printer.
Students are allowed to hire from our range of Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras, medium format and large format cameras, wide angle, portrait, macro and telephoto lenses, Bowens Travelpak kits.
Course Structure - Year one (Diploma)
T erm one is the exploratory stage, where you will take part in a variety of 2D and 3D workshop activities to explore and develop your knowledge and understanding of materials, techniques and processes. These will include Photography, Graphics, Fashion & Textiles, Print, Ceramic, Wood/Metal, Painting and Drawing. Term 2 is the pathway stage, where you begin to explore your chosen subject area Photography in greater detail. Term 3 is the confirmatory stage, where you complete a Final Major Project; this involves you writing and directing your own Photography project using the knowledge and skills you have acquired during the course.
Course Structure - Year Two (Extended)
In year two you will further develop and build upon the skills learnt in year one. At the end of the second year students showcase their Photography portfolio work at the college end of year exhibition and frequently display their work in shows at other locations.
Students can take part in a trip to the Paris Photo Festival in year 2.Students have the option of opting into the A Level Photography course, which will give a total equivalent of 4 A-levels at the end of the two years.
