A Partnership between Barnet and Southgate College and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
Background / Aims
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation & Barnet and Southgate College Education and Football Development Centre links football theory, Academy standard coaching and affiliated league and cup competitions with a range of academic studies for up to 50 learners aged between 16 and 19 years
Learners of varying abilities and from a wide variety of ethnic and social backgrounds can enroll on full-time BTEC level 2 or 3 and NVQ level 2 and 3 courses with the potential to continue onto a foundation degree in Sports Development and Coaching. A-Levels will also be available to some students as an option
A permanent team of qualified staff from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Barnet and Southgate College will deliver the coaching and teaching elements of the programme
All coaching staff have appropriate FA qualifications in football, are emergency aid trained, and are CRB checked to enhanced level. Coaches from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation are also THFC Academy or Development Centre coaches
Learners will use facilities at the college, the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, and at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club over the duration of the year
Transport will be provided for learners to and from all of the above facilities if required free of charge
Learners who enroll on the course will be required to sign a code of conduct, and will not be allowed to train or play football unless they are up-to-date with their academic commitments
Classroom sessions will fit around the football training and playing element of the programme
Learners will receive up to 10 hours of Tottenham Hotspur Academy standard coaching each week at the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre
A full-time physiotherapist will be available for all learners
An elite squad will be selected from the students to compete at college level both locally and nationally
A development squad will also be selected to improve the skills of students who are not in the elite squad. These students may progress to the elite squad during the course of the academic year
Both squads will be entered into suitable leagues and cup competitions, ensuring that there are enough games for all players, and at the right level
Training and playing kit for the programme will be provided for each learner
How can children be involved?
Learners will be recruited through various local youth and community projects, via formal referrals, and via Southgate College's prospectus yearly
All completed application forms and additional supporting paperwork (references and personal statements etc) must be sent to Barnet and Southgate College, High St, London, N14 6BS
Successful applicants will be invited for a three day football trial, class based assessment, and an interview with the college which takes place in June
Applicants that are successfully selected as a result of the football trial, class based assessment and college interview will be placed on a course that reflects their qualifications
