"I’m really enjoying the role. I’m really comfortable in this job, if I learn something new I relish it. The other staff are great. I get on with everyone, they’re all willing to help but treat me just like any member of staff.

I do feel like a part of the wider Barnet and Southgate College community too – students and staff all come together which is really great.

I’d definitely recommend it to others: in fact, I already have! I’ve got a friend who wants to join up in September to do some sort of administration course."

Arben Trugu
Proprietor, The Retreat Hair & Beauty Salon, Finchley

The Retreat  is a hair and beauty salon in East Finchley, run by Arben Trugu. Arben recently took over the business from the previous owner, and finds the contribution from apprentices invaluable:

“It’s a two-way process – when we are quiet I’m able to teach them more about hair cutting skills and enhance their training.

When we are busy, however, they are a real help to me – they can do a blow dry for me, for instance, so I can make sure other customers are being dealt with. The business gets many benefits from being involved in Apprenticeships.”
